I'm a hospital-based LC who's been seeing a Mom with a baby, now 2 weeks old, who is continueing to struggle with severe nipple pain. We have r/u yeast, mastitis, plugged duct, disfunctional suck, etc. Weight is past birth weight. Baby feeds fine on right breast - no pain. When on the left, the Mom c/o severe nipple pain with latch-on which continues throughout the feeding. It has been this way from the beginning. The nipple appeared reddened from day one for a few days, which has now resolved. The nipple does not appear compressed when baby is un-latched after a couple minutes. There is no scabbing, cracks, etc. Mom is using "Lansinoh" and "2nd Skin" between feedings. Pumping is just as painful as feeding. Any ideas? I'd like to be able to help this dedicated Mom.
