I played with a similar technique, myself, last year to see if I could increase mite drop through my screened bottom board. My treatment was to simply puff clouds of powdered sugar between the brood chambers. I was a little worried as to the effect of the sugar on open brood, though, and did not have time to pursue the experiment.
