Just to clarify. I'm not keeping my mouth shut in my community for the next two years. I just know there will be a lot work to do to continue to change the attitudes of my colleagues. BTW-the peds chief at the other hospital is a WOMAN (yes we have quite a few women pediatricians in our area). She is not very interested in breastfeeding management. However she is one of the few pediatricians in the area that will see indigent patients (as in medicaid, CHIPS, no insurance). To be brutally frank, most of my colleagues could give a rat's backside about patient satisfaction (something very attractive to administrators, consumer advocates, health plans attracting patients). On the other hand, I look at the current situation in my community as incredible job security. More families are coming to my practice looking for a "family centered," gentler doc.
