Becky,

I am a hosp. based LC at Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, in Palo
Alto, CA.
We do not have a lactation rotation for med students, but we do have an
elective for OB and Pediatric residents. They spend at least a week with us,
following us on maternity rounds, observing outpatinet consults, and joining
us for consults in the NICU and step down unit. It is a good learning
experience for all of us. When I have a medical question the resident is
right there to consult with, and they tell us that they find the lactation
rotation extremely useful, especially as they head out to private practice.
I don't actually know how many of the residents take advantage of this
experience...could find out for you if you would like to know. I think 4
weeks of lactation education in medical school is a phenomenal idea...follow
up during residency would be great too.
