Dear Lactnetters,

A mother called me (from across an ocean) about her ten and a half month old
daughter who has worn a hole in each of the mother's nipples by rubbing her top
front teeth into the breast when breastfeeding. She says that the cuts are deep
and nursing is very painful. She usually nurses lying down so I suggested that
she turn her baby "upside down", that is with the daughter's body next to the
mother's head, which helped. I also suggested keeping the cuts covered with
modified lanolin. My question is what else this mother can do to promote
healing and continue nursing without further damage. Can the latch of a ten
month old be corrected?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
