I loved my Boppy pillow! Used it from birth to about 18 months or so. I think it worked well for me because I also used a footstool, so my knees were elevated which kept both the pillow and my son nestled close. Also, I am slender enough that I could wrap the pillow securely around my waist and it would not slide away from me. (I can see how the velcro-strap versions are helpful for this.) I did support my son with my arm on the side he was nursing on, until he fell asleep, at which time I would have both hands free. I hear the concerns about potentially poor positioning. But I don't see anything inherently bad about using a pillow that is contoured to fit around mom & support baby. It seems to achieve the same thing as using several regular pillows propped around you, but without the drawback of sliding out of place. Also, if mom has to get up, the contoured pillow stays where it is (held in place with a hand or two), unlike a pile of regular pillows which have to be re-propped and readjusted.
