My name is Victoria Anderson - I have been lurking on LactNet for a few months now. . .I am responding to the above post. . . I am an RN, IBCLC, work full-time at a very busy hospital here, and former LLL leader here in Atlanta, Ga. I was in private practice with Patti Carroll, for those of you who know Patti. . .I felt the urge to write and respond to this one. Both of my kids nursed until they were 3 - sometimes babies that age nurse more often than newborns. . . .perhaps it's a growth spurt; sometimes I have learned that it is better to 'work in the solution, rather than the problem'.. . .i.e., do what works, and gets you the most sleep. Go ahead and nurse; it sounds like he just needs a little food and reassurance, and then he goes back to sleep. Maybe referral to a LLL toddler meeting? Sometimes those meetings have ones for Dads, too, so they can learn to be more understanding. . . Having her read the Norma Bumgartner book - Mothering Your Nursing Toddler? Sometimes, too, at that age, babies can be a bit overwhelming; I feel it helps to realize that, at some point, they all, learn to sleep through the night, get potty trained, stop nursing, etc. I feel, for me, some of my frustration would come from those acquaintances who could just lay their baby down, and he / she would just drift off to sleep. . .not mine, either.. . .Hope some of this helps! And, that I responded the 'right way' on the computer!!!
