<This isn't to defend the slanted view of breastfeeding. . . . . but more to give you an idea how it has come about and is perpetuated [and how you can go about changing it].> Thanks for this set of easy-to-understand reflections, Gail. It helps to remember that despite differences, physicians "put their britches on one leg at a time, just like everyone else." I wonder how many of them realize these formative factors, especially the last one about pharmaceutical reps? I alway took particular pleasure in doing whatever I could to assist physicians/spouses going through the maternity cycle, because I think that is where some of their most formative experiences take place. It was especially obvious in the attitudes of those who tried as hard as they knew how, but somehow "didn't make it" to the mythically perfect goal they had set. If a physician's wife (or a woman physician) had a disappointing experience, it really seemed to cast a dark shadow over the "spirit" and the type of support available to their patients.
