I have a client with repeated plugged ducts. She has a great deal of pain, and the episodes resolve with the proverbial "spagetti" strand being expelled. The problem is that she keeps getting them and is in pain. Also her 5 month old baby refuses to nurse during these episodes, which causes the mother some anxiety. Both upper quandrants of one breast seems to be effected. I learned that she had a serious breast injury when she was a child, damaging the nipple. No one (including two LCs she has worked with) thought to ask about this before. The MD she is seeing is (of course) suggesting weaning. She does not want to wean. She has been treated for mastitis twice, but on the other breast. I gave her the name of a bf freindly MD and we talked of the possibilty of one sided nursing (this was never discussed with her by anyone else either) but we want to reserve this option only if there is no other. Any thoughts on what I might be missing? *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
