In infants, the gut is not always acidic enough to prevent the bacterium from replicating and producing its toxin in the baby's body, and deaths have resulted. I don't know if anyone has researched whether BF gives any protection against this. The Norwegian Health Board has issued a warning against giving babies under 12 months, honey in any form. The cases here were in immigrant children (from unspecified countries) who were given a pacifier dipped in honey as a soother.
