Hi Lactnetters, I have a mom who has a 5 month old baby and she noticed a lump near her areola the past few weeks. A surgeon recommended she "wean" and let him remove the lump as the baby has gotton all the nutrition she needs and the baby needs a healthy mom. Mom was upset at his attitude toward her breastfeeding and is trying to take the best course. She is taken the recommendation to get a second opinion from her ob and myself and others, but she couldn't get an appointment until Jan 2. It is someone a family member has used in the past, a woman dr who seemed more sympathetic to preserving the breastfeeding relationship.A sonogram was done but the surgeon said a mammogram would be of little use in a lactation woman. Hopefully, this will turn out benign, the mom is 37 and her first child. The mom does not intend to use the first dr, even if the advice is the same, based on his abrupt attitude. Is anyone on the list aware of a surgeon in the New York area, a radius of 50 miles north of NYC who they would recommend, please e-mail me privately. I will keep you posted of this situation, mom gave me permission to ask on Lactnet if anyone has experience with this, although we don't know what type lump we are dealing with yet. No symptoms of mastitis or abscess noted. *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
