I, too would like to know how you can "force" a child to nurse. I would have loved to have this info many years ago when one of mine quit "cold turkey" at 11 months of age at 5 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon March 1st! I still kid her about the timing. As a Baha'i, we fast from sunrise to sunset March 2-20. Since she had weaned, I was no longer "exempt". Now I know about nursing strikes. To this day (and she's over 30) she still chews on pencil erasers. I'm sure there are many factors about the Chicago case that aren't in the media, but since when did that stop them from publishing those aspects that will get a rise out of the generel public. I must say that the broadcast on our local Fox affiliate did make mention of the fact that anthropologists state that in other cultures this would not be considered unusual. In both media and in the judge's statement it is pointed out that the nursing was not the only issue. To me this indicates that some degree of progress is being made toward shifting public attidutes. We have a long way to go, but there are some "nudges" in the right direction.
