Praised by the Chicago Tribune for performances of "enormous freshness, vitality and poetry," he made his orchestral debut with the Seattle Symphony at the age of sixteen. Mr. Padilla has been performing extensively ever since, as guest artist with orchestras and at concert series throughout the world. In a recent San Diego Union-Tribune review (November 15, 2000), Mr. Padilla's performance at the La Jolla Chamber Music Society is described as "impassioned... bringing tears to many eyes and the artist back to the stage three times after uproarious applause." Other performance highlights include the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Ravinia, Holzhausen, Victoria, Sarasota, Cascade, Bay View and San Luis Obispo Mozart Festivals; tours of France, Belgium, Switzerland and Thailand, and recital appearances throughout the United States. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Mr. Padilla studied with Nelita True, Jeffrey Kahane, Natalya Antonova, Bela Siki, Donald Walker and the late Jorge Bolet. Awarded the prestigious Beethoven Fellowship by the American Pianists Association in 1991, Mr. Padilla was also a finalist in the Gina Bachauer, Cleveland, William Kapell, and Walter Naumburg International Piano Competitions. In addition, he has won top honors from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, the Society of American Musicians, the Music Teachers National Association, the National Chopin-Koszciuszko Foundation, the Harvard Musical Association and the Theodore Presser Foundation.
