Keep the stomach from being empty and blood sugar levels from dropping to alleviate and perhaps eliminate morning sickness. Ginger tea often works to soothe nausea, boiling water over a slice or two the size of a quarter makes one cup. The ginger can be grated for a snappier flavor. An internet search will find one if a local health food store or marine shop does not have them. Small, frequent meals, eaten slowly and thoroughly chewed. A thermos with warm water or herbal (anise, fennel, red raspberry leaf, ginger, pregnancy mixtures) tea beside the bed for a sip before rising as well as crackers or matzo beside the bed to eat first thing in the morning before getting out of bed. Food in the pockets during the day. Adequate B vitamin, iron, calcium and protein intake. Peppermint or spearmint teas. Limit sweets, animal fats and heavy and fried foods. From an emotional perspective, she might ask herself what aspect of this pregnancy is her body trying to throw up? Helen Varney calls the first trimester the Period of Adjustment. Women adjust to pregnancy emotionally, psychologically and spiritually which often manifest on the physical realm where we see it. You might suggest that she find a quiet moment and meditate or visualize what it is that is unsettling with this pregnancy. I suggest that she find some time alone, light a candle (candles help us remember the sacredness of life), burn incense if she likes that, and turn everything else off. She can just turn in to herself and listen. The good news is that the Period of Adjustment is followed by the Period of Radiant Health.
