John Smyth initiated this thread by telling us of some recordings he recently bought which had a significant impact on the contents of his wallet. John's acquisitions sound very good and I'm particularly intrigued by the Mozart Requiem from Weill on Sony. I always keep my wallet in the back right pocket of my pants; being a left handed person (in more ways than one), that allows me to use my primary hand for assertive purposes while reaching for my wallet at the same time. When the contents of my wallet thin out, I'd swear that the wallet starts vibrating and saying "feed me - feed me", especially when I'm in a record shop. As an aside, I noticed that in the Advance Order screens of CDNOW, Koch is releasing a new performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion from Thomas and his American Bach Soloists. I have a couple of the Thomas Bach Cantata discs, and they certainly are worthy entries. The price of this new set appears to be the same as for a premium 2-cd set. That does have me wondering if Thomas uses Mendelssohn's arrangement of the work. Does anyone know the straight facts on this matter? Don Satz [log in to unmask]
