Hi, Cindy, I have used your pages on Fenugreek many times and just yesterday discovered an error. In my search for a reference about possible diarrhea in the infant to answer a Lactnetter I discovered this. I guess sometimes we 'know' something so well we don't thoroughly reread what we have been using. I have the article in one of my Rental Roundups (Medela). And it is also on http:// www.breastfeeding.org. Thought you might want to correct it since you are in the process of getting your new site up. This is from the Kathleen Huggins article. Here is what is written: Few women report adverse effects fenugreek, although some may and among our clients who have used two or three have developed which quickly subsided when dosage was either decreased or the was discontinued. Two asthmatic felt that fenugreek aggravated asthma symptoms, an interesting since fenugreek is thought to be a remedy for asthma. One mother with diabetes who used an insulin pump, noticed little change in her insulin requirements. To date, we have not observed or heard of any side effects in the infants whose mothers have taken fenugreek. Should be: Few women report adverse effects with fenugreek, although some may notice a maple-like odor to their urine and sweat. Among our clients who have used fenugreek, two or three have developed diarrhea, which quickly subsided when dosage was either decreased or the herb was discontinued. Two asthmatic mothers felt that fenugreek aggravated asthma symptoms, an interesting effect, since fenugreek is thought to be a remedy for asthma. One mother with diabetes, who used an insulin pump, noticed little change in her insulin requirements. To date, we have not observed or heard of any side effects in the infants whose mothers have taken fenugreek. Still haven't found my reference, I know I actually saw it in something. Even though, in most cases, Jack is probably right about an increase in Breastmilk causing an increase in stools. Just thought you might want to know.
