I supplied a mom, who had a breast reduction before having her children, with an SNS 15 months ago, shortly after the birth of her second baby. She is not local but keeps regular contact to let me know how things are going or when she needs a new tube. She breastfed her first baby for a short while only and then stopped because of a low milk supply. She enthuses about her SNS and is a resource for other mothers wishing to use this aid. She has tried to breastfeed (one word!) without it every now and then, but does not mind when her baby lets her know she prefers to go on using it. This mom enjoys breastfeeding and is grateful for a device that has allowed her to be able to do so. She relates the joy of having her baby For short term use, I prefer to suggest a no. 5 Fr tube at the breast and most mothers seem happy to go this route. Our practice has been having an upsurge of adoptive moms wishing to breastfeed and an SNS seems more appropriate for them although ultimately, the decision is theirs.
