I conducted historical research on a 19th century grist mill in
Leicseter, Massachusetts where excavations revealed underground
remains of hearting boards beneath the dam, the wooden penstock,
scroll case and pillow block holding a metal turbine that had been
removed. The Phase III Data Recovery report, titled Data Recovery
Operations at the Shaw (Moose Hill Reservoir) Site, Upper Quaboag
Watershed, Massachusetts, edited by Russell J. Barber with
contributions by Edward S. Rutsch, Suzanne Spencer-Wood and Meredith
Weiss-Belding, prepared for Interagency Archaeological Services in
Atlanta, is PB81-17-1522 ordered from the National Technical
Information Service.
Hi!
Has anybody out there got any information
on construction and archaeological excavations of 19th Century
millraces and/or penstocks, particularly buried wooden penstocks? Any
and all information/leads would be very gratefully
received.
Thanks in advance.
