Hi Jeannette,
With my first son I was sent home with a tube of ointment for an infected
tear duct. After 3 or 4 days of treatment he still had a crusty eye that
didn't seem to be getting any better. My sister recommended the age-old
treatment of breastmilk. Not only did it rinse out the crusty stuff
without causing him any visible discomfort, within 24 hours his infection
had cleared completely. Sorry I know of no studies, but I tried it again
on my third son when he had a sty and it also worked for him. It seems
to be a very gentle method of treatment.

Who last week had to explain to her 5-year-old why she wanted him to get
sick on purpose (he has now successfully contracted and survived chicken
pox, along with an aquaintance who got it despite being vaccinated...).
