Got a call today from a mother who had moved away from my area prior to having a second baby, who was a pickle of a nurser from day one. This mom put up with constant discomfort until weaning last September at ~16 months. She was visiting in town and called this morning to say hi and ask about her nipples/areola. Since weaning she describes her nipples as very flaccid and loose skinned; they do perk up some when getting out the shower, however, she says that she really has no sensations in the nipple area at all. She was particularly wondering when the tooth mark indentations that are still formed in the areola in the shape of three of her daughter's upper teeth will go away. Do any of you from either your own personal experiences with toothed leaning breastfeeders have something to share with this mom? Any moms calling with a similar question? This mom thinks that this extremely strong child who was an extremely powerful super sucker may have actually stretched out her skin into this position- but for the indentations to be there 6 months later? I have never really timed how long my wedding ring indentation lasts-- but I imagine it is not that many months.... Any thoughts?
