Ulvi Yurtsever drew our attention to Glenn Gould's: >Beethoven concerto recordings; some of the most original readings of this >bread-and-butter repertoire, and flat-out the best in Nos.1 and 2 (more >exciting than even the best HIP versions). The first version of the third piano concerto I ever owned was Gould's - I once lent it to a friend from whom a burglar with excellent taste stole it. During a flute passage in the slow movement, there was a less than discreet cough in the distance. I've tried not to, but I always mentally insert the cough whenever I hear any version of the concerto. Richard Pennycuick [log in to unmask]
