What is the problem of having a pituitary adenoma? Does it need to be treated? Actually, most pituitary adenomas do not need to be treated, the main problem is lack of menstrual periods or infertility. Only occasionally does an adenoma grow and cause problems because of its growth, but that is not affected, one way or another by the mother's breastfeeding, and it is, in any case rare for there to be pressure problems. Now that she is pregnant: 1. She does not still need to be on this medication. 2. She can breastfeed. Some mothers who have been on bromocriptine seem actually to produce less milk than they need, but the majority produce plenty.
