There's been quite a bit of scientific research into subject of this
thread. To date, nobody's come up with anything even approaching a
definitive explanation of the relationship between music and language, much
less of a relationship between expressions of emotions in both. But for
surveys of the ways relevant research is heading there's the Handbook of
Music Psychology, D.A.  Hodges, ed., University of Texas, IMR Press, 1996;
and Bruhn, Oerter & Riesing, eds. Musikpsychologie, ein Handbuch, Rohwolt,
1997. Both works have bibliographies. A big name in the field is A.S.
Bregman, and a search of his scholarly papers would be in order here.
