I have been paying particular attention to assorted recordings of the
Bruckner 2nd symphony lately.  In all the notes reference is made to the
statement of the Vienna Philharmonic of Bruckner's day referring to this
symphony as being unperformable.  Can anyone elaborate on just what the
orchestra was referring to, especially since the symphony was performed
shortly after that statement? Was the orchestra just getting on its high
horse, etc.?
