I come in late on this one so sorry if I repeat anything. 'Spem' is a superb masterpiece that does not get enough recognition. Neither does music of this era get enough of an airing in this group, as I am beginning to say more often. Avoid the recording on Carlton Classics of 'Spem' it's very poor I'm afraid many because of the sound. Venue is of course vital for such a piece. I always regarded the Tallis Scholars as the definitive recording. Am I wrong? Bob Draper [log in to unmask]
