I was asked to post this by a Pediatrician and I am also curious about the
opinions of those on the list. This Ped had a "prenatal" interview with a
lady adopting a 12 month old and 2 1/2 year old from Haiti. She was telling
him that in no certain terms would the 12 month old NOT be breastfed and
plans on pumping and taking "hormones" (peds words, not mine) to get her
milk. By the time she gets the baby, it will be about 15 months old. He was
concerned about her expectations and worries that she will be "forcing" the
child to breastfeed, not knowing if the child has ever even sucked on
anything, much less a breast. He is not against the child nursing if it
wanted to but was more concerned about the mother's attitude that the child
HAD to. I know that initiating breastfeeding in an older adoptive child in
not unheard of but would like to know others opinions. Claudia Globerger
