Bottle-Feeding and Infant Formula Feeding policies

Have just sent a copy to Pat, off list, of a maternity service policy I
created a few years ago now (and which probably needs updating/editing),
about the information required to be given to women/parents who are
bottle-feeding breast-milk substitutes. We are required to have a policy
like this now as part of our BFHI programme - a breastfeeding policy and
a separate policy on bottle-feeding breast-milk subs.

I also incorporated such items as, "Mothers who have made the fully
informed decision to infant formula/bottle-feed will be given the
opportunity to have undisturbed skin to skin contact with their babies
for a minimum period of sixty minutes", as this is important for other
processes as well as early initiation of breastfeeding, and the policy
also contains a Code of Practice for maternity staff based on The
International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and
subsequent, relevant, World Health Assembly [WHA] resolutions and I
added a few sections in the appendices from relevant WHA resolutions for
good measure.

If anyone is interested please email me off list and I can send you a
copy.
