Hello,

I am interested in hearing from LCs working in hospitals. At my facility, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, FL., we are updating our bf policy and using the AAP Sample Hospital BF Policy as one of our guides. According to the sample policy, if after 24 hours the baby has not latched, or has latched but feeds poorly the mother will be instructed to initiate pumping....then a collaborative decision will be made regarding the need to supplement....

Do most of you at your hospital wait for 24 hours to intervene for poor feeding? At our facility, interventions for poor feeding are usually made prior to to 24 hours, due in part to older policies, early discharge and physician direction.

I would appreciate hearing about how the timing for interventions for poor feeding is handled at your hospital.

Thank you! Mary
