We really don't know if healing happens before pregnancy, during
pregnancy or during lactation. My client with free nipple grafts and
reduction mammoplasty feels her healing came during the long intervening
years between her surgery and her pregnancy. Domperidone, goats' rue,
and using a Lact-aid at breast all helped increase the milk supply
during lactation in her case.

One of the big issues with peri-areolar incisions is interruption of the
sensory nerve that is stimulated by sucking, and leads to the release of
prolactin and oxytocin. If this pathway is destroyed, it's very hard
for the mom to have MER's, even if the ducts are intact and the milk
glands are functioning. In Lynn's client's case, perhaps some oxytocin
nasal spray would be helpful in conditioning the MER.
