I went to a meeting once where a PEDS
gastroenterlogist was talking about GE
reflux in infants. He never ONCE
mentioned breastfeeding. I could
contain myself no longer when he
mentioned thickening the feedings as a
treatment. So I coyly asked, "How do
you thicken breastmilk?" His Reply,
"Ah, Ah, Ah, you can't of course. You
know many infants on breastmilk don't
have a problem because it doesn't sit
in the stomach so long."

I spoke with him privately after his
talk, and got him to admit that he
basically doesn't see any infants that
are breastfed, by the time he sees them
they are all on formula (or started
that way.) Gee, I think he still
missed the point, we really want to
practice primary prevention here don't
we? Of course I doubt he could take
time from his busy schedule to help
promote breastfeeding. After all if
more infants were breastfeed, he would
not get to do nearly as many
gastroscope procedures.
