Sharon,
I have a client with a rare autoimmune disorder who experienced severe
joint pain postpartum as well.  Her pain also began several months
postpartum, and ended at about the baby's first birthday, without
weaning.  She managed the pain and swelling with ibuprofen.  She is
still breastfeeding the baby at 18 mos of age, and is pain free.
