Hi Vicky
This would be a normal feeding pattern for a baby this age.  I would suggest
that the mother stop expressing and bottle feeding and simply respond to her
baby's hunger cues.  I am betting this would actually be less time consuming
than feeding, expressing, bottling and washing up every 3 hours.  In my
experience it is the very rare mother who can go for 3 or more hours between
feeds.
