Dear Lactnet Friends:

Miriam, you eloquently made the case for the support that those who are
exclusively pumping need.

Fiona Jardine, a PhD candidate said much of the same during her
presentation at the wonderful Healthy Children International conference in
January. She found that while there were many reasons to EP, the 3 main
ones were: baby wouldn't breastfeed, baby had been in NICU, and wanting to
know how much milk a baby was getting.

I am just guessing, after 40+ years in the field. that EP benefits are
between that of breastfeeding and formula feeding for the milk making
person. The benefits of human milk for  our babies are still light years
more than feeding a camel/cow/goat milk based substitute.

Ms Jardine was doing her doctoral research on this topic, and talked at
length about the choice to EP need more encouragement and support from
lactation professionals.
