Don't get me wrong - I love the research Medela has done and its products because they are good. I love the focus of research scientists who really want to help moms and babies. But - I refuse to allow my lactation center to be one of these centers. Why? Because I reserve the right, as long as I have control, to keep my eyes open for any product that puts moms and babies together and gets back to breastfeeding. And if Medela makes a product I don't think is really that useful, I won't promote it or carry it. I'm a show-me person. I want to see the data to support whatever you are selling. I want to try the product myself and test it (think about what Karen Gromada did with flow rates and bottles, though a machine is really not the same as a baby!). Our understanding of things is only as good as our tools and senses. Without good microscopes, tests and devices for measuring our environment, we would not know what's going on around us. Sometimes, I think, we were better NOT knowing! But everything has a balance point and a tipping point. The young among us need elders to remind them that the old ways worked in the old days, that the human body is basically the same since Adam and Eve and technology just enables us to cope more efficiently with some parts of the environment. But there are some things that we don't want to get rid of - sex for instance!

Dear Friends:

I was cruising the Medala website looking for the new name what used to be known as the Haberman feeder (It's the 'special needs feeder') and I found this page about "Certified Nursing Centers"

"What is a Certified Nursing Center? A Certified Nursing Center is not just about nursing. These stores offer a full product assortment that allows moms a “one stop shop” for all of her breastfeeding, nursing, feeding, and educational needs. Certified Nursing Cetners offer a dedicated staff with superior customer service, Certified Product Specialists and Bra Fitters, Breastfeeding Specialist referrals from their store or Breastfeeding Specialists on staff, educational materials and classes, and so much more."

I wonder where they are getting the Breastfeeding Specialists from?

warmly,
