I subscribe to Marie's newsletter. How could I have missed that! She
makes an excellent point that the term 'breastmilk' sprang up precisely
at the time artificial aby milk began to be manufactured. I urge everyone
to read the whole editorial. The formula manufacturers' have continued to
be aware of it all along, and ever so much so when they named their
product for enriching human milk for premies. Did they name it
"Breastmilk Fortifier"? No! They named it "Human Milk Fortifier", thus
killing two birds with one stone-meeting a perceived need by neonatal
practitioners for something to help the frail premie, plus duping parents
and professionals alike that with a name like that, it no doubt must be
actually made from human milk!! NOT!
