I feel that every mother who breastfeeds for whatever length of time was appropriate for her, should feel proud of her accomplishment. Sometimes that "accomplishment" was just for a NICU stay or during a maternity leave. Yes, it is most appropriate for every infant/child to be breastfed as long as possible, however, not every woman wants to breastfeed long term and many cannot. Every woman should be able to feel proud of providing breastmilk for whatever length of time she was able to do it for. In practice, it's about meeting women where they are at , and helping them to achieve their goals and hoping that along the way, your interactions provided education and positive support and enough assistance to help them move in the direction of breastfeeding long term.
