Hi All,
Denise, yes Katie Corac did breastfeed. I am not sure how committed,
how long and how exclusively it was, as unlike Joan Lundon and others in
the public eye - there was never a mention of baby and nurse coming to
the studio. Susan St. James (in the 70's) had the condition written into
every contract - film or television - that if she became pregnant, the
baby would return to the set with her with a nurse and she would have X
numbers of breaks for breastfeeding. Joan Lundon brought her baby and
nurse (in the ABC limo) to work each and every day. Also, Patricia
Richardson (Jill on Home Improvement) nursed her twins and brought them
to the show, every day and told ABC when she was hired, she was not
going to lose the weight rapidly. I applaud women who are in
recognizable public positions promote, mothering and breastfeeding -
who do it. I can still remember Hillary Clinton (not that she is a
favorite of mine) sitting on Oprah saying how the nurse handed her
Chelsey and walked away and the tears streamed down her face as she
wondered what to do and how to do it. She sounded like every mom of my
generation.
The major live conference on the septuplets yesterday was on MSNBC,
and I can not say how astounded I was that the questions from the media
started with breastfeeding. Must have either missed a statement, but to
see the representatives are almost defiantly defending their decision to
support Bobbie's decisions and her right to have made those decisions.
Talk about a blessing from God, Bobbie & Kenny have 7 beautiful
children, and since our media system believes that this all needs to be
played out moment to moment, at least nationwide, perhaps worldwide,
humans of all ages will be struck with the reality that if a mom of 7
(at once) can consider, be encouraged and supported to, and supply
breastmilk - then certainly the problems associated with the birth of a
singleton is proportionally less intense. This may be the only time I
will go bravo to our media for being invasive and broadcasting it all
the time. Breastfeeding has probably been mentioned more on tv more in
the past 24 hours, than in the whole year before!
