Someone wrote about slow-growing babies:

In contrast, *my* wonderful son, who is now 10, gained rapidly his first
year. He was born weighing 9 lbs. 2.5 oz, and had doubled his birth weight
by 4 months and more than tripled it by a year, when he weighed 30 pounds.
By 18 months he weighed 34 pounds, but then he stayed about that weight for
more than a year, while growing taller. He nursed with gusto, often and for
long stretches at a time, especially in the early mornings, and was weaned
by me at age 5.5 years.

At 10, he is close to 5' tall, weighs 150 pounds, and is big all over (like
me). He has especially huge hands and feet, and very broad shoulders (we
knew that from the birth, when he had severe shoulder dystocia). We call
him our "St. Bernard puppy child." He is not a picky eater -- on the
contrary he is very enamoured of food and cooking and eating. He knows all
the celebrity chefs from TV and is growing his hair long so he can wear it
pulled back in a pony-tail like Mario Battalio (one of the celebrity chefs).
He especially loves Indian, African, Mexican, and Italian food, as well as
all the usual American staples. He loves crab and crawfish and squid, and
anything fondue. He plans to go to the Culinary Institute of America and
become a chef when he grows up. Already he cooks dinner for the family
twice a week, and helps me with the other meals. :)

Human variation is grand.
