I'd like to know why she would have to wean. Breastfeeding women have
surgery all the time and do not have to wean...so what gives here? Ask the
Dr's to give her concrete evidence to risks of BF through a surgery - any
surgery - and why she should have to. Otherwise - leave her alone. All she
needs to do is either nurse or pump the breasts well immediately prior to
surgery and immediately after to protect her from engorgement.

Goodness - when will common sense take over in circumstances like this??

Subject: BF mom donating kidney-does she have to wean?

Hi all,

I have a bf mom of a one year old who is donating her kidney to her
brother. She is being told she has to wean in order to go through the
surgery and recovery. Is this true and does anyone have any information that
they can share on this matter?

Thank you,
Kimberly Durdin, IBCLC
