Winnie mentioned the concept of the fluffier breast..please lets not go
there, if these idiots who want to try to blame breastfeeding for this tragic
event get a inkling that large breasts can cover a baby's face...well they may get
it into their cadnoodles and rattle it around that anyone over a C cup
can'tbreastfeed because we might smother our babies. Strange reaction formations
from sad events make doctors and hospitals and even nurses think in bizarre
scenerios. Like someone mentioned earlier the tragedy might have been clarified
with an autopsy, but by now its probably too late unless by law it was
mandated. So now the community is left with second guessing that is dangerous.
A hospital in our community is going to 'forbid" all types of photography
and videography because the doctors want no "records" that can be
misconstrued in court. How idiotic. Same thought process...always someone needs to
assume blame. Not the odd concept that occasionally, Bad things happen.
Sympathies and prayers for consolation and for wisdom and common sense to prevail.
Hopefully someone with wisdom will step forward and help this unit that is in
pain and reacting try not to respond with rash judgements. If not then perhaps
some wise women can write the hospital and hope to provide good evidence based
research that can act as a guide for them to devise a plan to help them feel
more in control, but allow future patient families to still bond and breastfeed
early on. Other wise we may be back to no breastfeeding in the hospital
because it might cause damage (most ludicrious expectation).
I am always amazed how institutions get wacky after events. In Florida this
would be a Sentinel Event and we would have to have Risk Management and
eventually the State would be inquiring...and a plan would be reviewed and
corrected if needed but sometimes every forseeable good sense response is already in
place and its just a sad bad outcome.
