Below is a news release on a clinical report published in the April issue of <A HREF="http://www.pediatrics.org/">
Pediatrics</A>, the peer-reviewed, scientific journal of the American Academy of
Pediatrics (AAP).

For Release: April 7, 2003, 12:01 am (ET)

http://www.aap.org/advocacy/releases/aprvitamin.htm
This is from the AAP website:

"It is recommended that all infants, including those who are exclusively
breastfed, have a minimum intake of 200 International Units (IU) of vitamin D
per day beginning during the first 2 months of life."

Many pregnant and new mothers will start hearing this information. It is in
the written media as well as all over the news in many states. Pediatricians
will start to give moms another reason why they should go to formula. Please
respond to this issue in a constructive manner. All of the information should
be given to these moms. Not all breastfed babies are in the categories that
vitamin D would be necessary. Our news here said, "Everyone used to think the
breastmilk was the perfect food but now it may be missing some important
nutrition."

It was repeated in the CNN news: <A HREF="http://www.cnn.com/2003/HEALTH/04/07/rickets.guidelines.ap/index.html">
http://www.cnn.com/2003/HEALTH/04/07/rickets.guidelines.ap/index.html</A>

Here are the AAP web site, address, phone, and a e-mail. Hopefully the
professional and lay people will respond to the articles and television media
concerning giving breastfed babies vitamin D without giving parents all the
facts and information.
