Dear Friends:

For mothers who are wondering about what to put on their nipples....ask them
if they would put the cream in question on their toast.

If the cream can't be eaten, then she shouldn't be putting it on her
nipples. Even if the ingredients are organic. In the case of MotherLove,
that means:  olive oil, marshmallow root, calendula, shea butter and
beeswax. (Sounds more like these ingredients would make a nice candle!)

There is no evidence of which I am aware that supports the use of nipple
creams, except for industry supported research. I am skeptical about
industry research that supports use of the product.

Blair et al. in her lovely study done in Latvia found that correcting
positioning alone worked as well as using cream, shells or hydrogel pads. As
free samples of the stuff in the purple tube are ubiquitous in hospitals in
my region, suggest that if a mother feels she HAS to use the cream every
feed, that is a sign she needs breastfeeding help.

Using her own milk on her nipples is safe for baby to eat, contains
antimicrobial factors and cream....
