Re: Clarithromycin(Biaxin)

As per your question on Biaxin(clarithromycin). This is a macrolide
antiobiotic just like erythromycin, Zithromax, and others. The only likely
problem associated with these antibiotics is an upset stomach and maybe a
little diarrhea. Unfortunately, we don't have any studies yet on Biaxin in
Bfing moms, although it is good to remember that Biaxin is cleared for
pediatric use, including neonates.

Next time, you might suggest using Zithromax(Azithromycin). It has
the same spectrum and useage as the other macrolides, and we now have a
good study showing that milk levels are extremely low( 0.6 to 2.8 mg/Liter
of milk) following a dose of 500 mg daily. This is a good product and good
news for use BF supporters.

I seriously doubt that Biaxin would produce any untoward effecs in a
breastfeeding infant.
