I apologize for not introducing myself earlier. I am a BSN, RN, IBCLC (to
use all of my pertinent initials). I function as the Lactation Consultant
at a Children's Hospital. I am the president of our local lactation
affiliate. I am single and have no children but am the VERY PROUD aunt of 10
month old breastfed Samuel and cousin to the parents of the breastfed Tyler,
Logan, Breeland, Grayson, Heather, Hannah and the list goes on.

I need information concerning allergenic cross-reactivity of latex and
foods. Specifically can mothers who are nursing infants with Spina Bifida
eat food associated with natural rubber latex such as bananas, avocados,
chestnuts, kiwis, etc? Our institution is now providing families with an
informational brochure with the recommendation that the Latex Sensitive
avoid these foods. I have not been able to find any information specific to
breastfeeding and the passage of this protein. I have searched the archives
as well as other sources. What are you all recommending? Thanks for your
help.
