Hi Karen
In Australia women who have been employed on a permanent (full or part time) basis have been entitled to 12 months unpaid maternity leave for many years.  From January 2011 eligible parents of children born or adopted on or after 1 January 2011 will be entitled to up to 18 weeks Parental Leave pay at the National Minimum Wage (AU$570 a week before tax from 1 July 2010).
