I have always referred to assessment such as breast changes as
providing a "yellow flag" rather than a red one. I have seen moms
who claim they had no noticible changes readily produce a plentiful
milk supply while some with major changes who never seem to be able
to get a large enough supply. Same goes for the "atypical" breast
shapes. These assessments are but a piece of the whole picture.
Certainly, a larger percentage of women with little or no breast
change in pg may have difficulty producing and delivering an
adequate supply, but it should not be taken by itself. In my case,
I don't ask every mom I see routinely postpartum about breast
changes. I only ask if there seems to be a supply problem. Who
knows how many are doing just fine with no changes?
Winnie
