Help!!!
I am a LLL Leader and also a Home Day Care Provider. I suspect one of "my"
babies has a milk allergy but I can't get through to mom! Mom did not
breastfeed (she thinks it's "gross"). Older sibling was put on soy as a
baby(don't know why). Mom says she liked it so much she had a hard time
switching to whole milk(hmmmm). Anyway- baby came to me at 6 weeks and has
had nasal congestion ever since(now 10 months). Suggested to mom she may
want to switch to soy & explained why but no luck. Ear infections began at 6
months. She suffered 2 ruptured ear drums in March and has been on umteen
antibiotic combinations since then. She still has fluid in her ears and has
been put on yet another antibiotic. She has seen 2 peds & no one has
mentioned milk allergies, only not to give bottles laying down. Mom now has
baby on whole cow's milk!!! I've mentioned once again about risks of whole
milk in infancy and possibility of milk contributing to ear infections.
Today I suggested she try soy for a few weeks but she didn't seem
enthusiastic.
Does anyone know of any articles or studies that may convince her where I
have failed? Yes I am frustrated and really would like to see this delightful
child well for once.
Unwilling to give up in VA,
