Dear Friends:
    Karen describes a typical situation where the newly delivered mother
refuses initial contact and wants to do other things.
    In view of some of the research from other mammals, who refuse to take
care of their young after anesthesia, I ask Karen, and all others, are these
mothers more likely to have had epidural anesthesia?
    My suspicion, from private practice, is that the commitment to
breastfeeding is weakened by the epidural. But, no evidence.
    What do you all think?
