I sent the following post before Lactnet "celebrated" New Years Day. I
received a few responses and I am posting it again in case someone else has
ideas on the topic. The test was SGIT-SGPT.

Three month old baby who had an extended struggle with weight gain but who
is now gaining, has tested with elevated liver enzymes. He has been
referred to a gastroenterologist at Children's Hospital to discover why, now
that he is gaining, his enzyme levels haven't come down.

Ped. says that they are elevated because of "starvation" but expected them
to return to normal now that he is gaining weight. Doc says that normal is
50-70 and this little guy's are in the 130s. His bili is, and has been
throughout, normal.

Mom wants to know if these enzyme levels will just take time to return to
normal, or if it was caused by limited calories for a while, what does this
elevation mean now when there are no other symptoms. He is a bright-eyed,
happy, develomentally-excelling, thin little boy.

Does continued testing seem appropriate or is the doctor just curious? What
does this count mean? What are the treatment expectations if...whatever?

This visit is coming up soon, so I appreciate any ideas as soon as possible.

TIA
