Brenda: I believe that the SSRI antidepressant (serotonin-reuptake
inhibitor) mentioned was zoloft (sertraline), although the study which
suggested its safety showed that the levels of sertraline in baby's serum
were not detectable, but didn't measure the active metabolite.
I still personally prefer to use older medications with a proven track
record, such as the tricyclics (e.g. amitriptylene/Elavil,
nortriptylene/Pamelor; desipramine/can't remember the trade name, etc)
unless the side effects are significant. If an SSRI must be used, it
seems that sertraline is preferable to fluoxetine/Prozac. Hope this
helps. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
